The product
In Oman, there are more than 98 different varieties of dates. Bustan dates mainly cultivates a variety called FARD and in smaller quantities the varieties of KHASAB, HILALI, QASH and KHALAS. The harvest varies depending on the age of the palm tree, location, water and nutrient supply. It can ranges between 10 and more than 300 kg per tree and year. In fact, usually up to 65% of the date harvest does not meet the global high quality standards for exporting. Therefore, Bustan dates strives to select the best products to be enjoyed by its customers worldwide.
The harvest time of the dates takes place from May to October, whereby three stages of maturity are distinguished:
- The Early Harvest (Bisr): At this stage, the dates are in yellow, red, and orange colors. They are characterized by a high fiber and fiber content. In the course of maturity, the
fibers convert to sugar. The riper the date is, the sweeter
and softer it becomes. - The harvest for the export / trade (Rotab): Here, the dates
are half in yellow, red, and orange tones and half in browns and blacks. These dates are best suited for further processing. - The fully ripe harvest (Tamer): Here the dates are characterized by a high sugar content, they are soft and with low fiber content.
